If a 9 Year Old Can Do It.....

Our family has had augmented child care since my daughter was 10 months old. We have been privledged to have careers that pay for day care, and summer camp, and what not. Once she aged out of day care, she’s been in year round care through the local YMCA, which consists of before school, after school, and daily summer camp which includes field trips.

But this year is different. When I decided to launch my business, I realized we could plan a really fun summer, which includes dance camp, art camp, and zoo camp. This week, she has art camp, and she wants everyone to know how artsy she is. So she did something that made me smile.

She made a plan.

Last night, she asked me for the weather report. Picked out an outfit that would be appropriate for the weather, and yet creative looking. She doodled out on a little pad what she wanted her hair to look like, complete with hair product. Laid out a hair accessory, and went to bed.

This morning, she decided she wanted her hair to look different than her plan. But pretty much everything else remained the same.

I started thinking about this from a business perspective. So many people let their days drive them. How simple it is to throw on your calendar two or three goals for the day, write down what you need to accomplish, and the most important part, be flexible to what is working. Sometimes plans don’t need to be exactly how you envisioned them.

She arrived early, filled out her name tag, and I anticipate she’ll have a great day. Because she planned for it.

So, if a 9 year old can do it, we all can do it.
